This website is a testimony to the problems Canadian Student Loan borrowers experienced from approximately 1996 to 2008 and until their loans were paid off.

The privatization of the Student Loans system by the Chretien and Martin Liberal governments broke the system and defaulted thousands of borrowers who were trying to pay their loans. There were even stories of suicide due to the harassment of borrowers.

Read the report that I prepared back in 2007 here. Canada Student Loans-The Need for Change Fortunately the new Conservative government at the time revamped the program and fixed the system for new borrowers, but borrowers under the previous program were left with ruined credit and continued harassment from debt collectors.

I call on the Canadian Government to apologize to the borrowers affected by this fiasco and make amends.

Unfortunately the Liberal government is again clobbering the Education system with their upcoming changes to International Student Visas. Yes, there's a problem, but instead of a well thought out plan, they have pulled the emergency brake on the train causing a derailment. This has introduced unprecedented instability for both private and public education institutions who serve both international and local students.

Universities can't plan. I've heard of courses being cut because the government has no process in place for universities to send the newly required acceptance letters to the government.

This means that students who have been accepted can not attend courses that start in the summer 2024 semester. With cut sections, current Canadian students will have trouble getting courses, and may have to switch to part-time which changes their enrollment status and might trigger repayment of their loans or ineligibility for funding. I've seen this before. It wreaks havoc on the student loan borrowers.

Again, the Liberal government has messed up the education environment. Will the new system needed in a rush for the acceptance letters be the new Arrivecan scandal?

I call on the government to implement a slower phased in approach and delay the requirement of the acceptance letters until a process is in place to submit these letters.

Allright so here is the issue... I became payable in November 2003 I couldnt make the payments so I applied for interest relief. They (Edulinx) lost my fax. I then began to accure more and more interest I was one more non-payment away from defaulting when I called them and found out the bad news. I called them up and said I sent a fax... the response we didnt recieve it. I said well you got it I have a reciept, they said did you call in to check !!! Well no I didnt I was fool and didnt expect this level of incompetence. What should I do ? Is there any recourse for me and the battle of the fax, can I get my accured interest taken care of?

Why are we punished for pursuing higher education?

Well, If you have the actual hard copy of the faxed successful page and are fortunately enough to have used a fax machine that shrinks the first page so you have proof of what you faxed, then I would say you have a case.  I work in the financial industry and if I had a customer say that they faxed us something and they had the fax confirmation, we would soil are pants praying that there are no reprecussions resulting from our loss of the fax.  And the line about "did you call to make sure"...what a crock of sh*t.

I would kindly forward them a *COPY* of your fax confirmation via registered mail and advise them to tread lightly as you would have few hesitations to make a formal complaint or alert the media.

However, if you only have the one lined confirmation...well, this is how many of the people got screwed by the government.

Good luck!

And get to spend your rather brief workdays bankrupting small entrepreneurs, foreclosing on mortgages and denying loans to new businesses.

Gee, that's got to be a high paying job!

It takes real creativity to find something new to charge for. I believe that I heard the CIBC was considering an oxygen consumption fee if you stand in line in their bank for more than ten minutes. Of course that would be accompanied by an oxygen availability fee if you choose to bank by computer or phone. That's because after all they had the oxygen waiting for you; it's not their fault you didn't use it. Sort of like charging an additional service charge for making no withdrawals or deposits during a month.
