This website is a testimony to the problems Canadian Student Loan borrowers experienced from approximately 1996 to 2008 and until their loans were paid off.

The privatization of the Student Loans system by the Chretien and Martin Liberal governments broke the system and defaulted thousands of borrowers who were trying to pay their loans. There were even stories of suicide due to the harassment of borrowers.

Read the report that I prepared back in 2007 here. Canada Student Loans-The Need for Change Fortunately the new Conservative government at the time revamped the program and fixed the system for new borrowers, but borrowers under the previous program were left with ruined credit and continued harassment from debt collectors.

I call on the Canadian Government to apologize to the borrowers affected by this fiasco and make amends.

Unfortunately the Liberal government is again clobbering the Education system with their upcoming changes to International Student Visas. Yes, there's a problem, but instead of a well thought out plan, they have pulled the emergency brake on the train causing a derailment. This has introduced unprecedented instability for both private and public education institutions who serve both international and local students.

Universities can't plan. I've heard of courses being cut because the government has no process in place for universities to send the newly required acceptance letters to the government.

This means that students who have been accepted can not attend courses that start in the summer 2024 semester. With cut sections, current Canadian students will have trouble getting courses, and may have to switch to part-time which changes their enrollment status and might trigger repayment of their loans or ineligibility for funding. I've seen this before. It wreaks havoc on the student loan borrowers.

Again, the Liberal government has messed up the education environment. Will the new system needed in a rush for the acceptance letters be the new Arrivecan scandal?

I call on the government to implement a slower phased in approach and delay the requirement of the acceptance letters until a process is in place to submit these letters.

Although I did not start my studies as a single mother, that is how I finished them, and was astounded to realise that despite my qualification, the wage I would earn would leave me struggling to cover the costs of childcare and transport to and from work on top of the normal, already minimum outgoings. This realisation came about the same time as learning that my father (who had since left Canada and returned to the UK with my mother) was unlikely to live more than a year, and so it was that shortly after graduation I returned to the UK to be with my family. I had no intention of defaulting on my student loan, and hoped that with some help from family members with childcare, that I would soon be on my feet.
As is often the case in life, things did not go to plan; the job I found in the UK was not in the same town as my family so childcare still devoured much of my income and during this time I regret to say that I neglected to keep up to date with my student loan.
Although in the back of my mind, I knew I was doing wrong, I felt safely hidden in the UK and for some time I tried hard not to think about the defaulted loan and growing interest, but the nagging knowledge of it would not go away. If I dwelled on it, I would feel physically ill, and lived in fear of being discovered and having to face up to my debt, but felt completely overwhelmed at how to address the issue, and remained in this state of fear and self-loathing for several years, before concluding that I was never going to be able to rest easy, or indeed return to Canada, if I did not face up to the situation. So I began searching the internet for clues of where to start, but what I found made me feel sicker than ever; story after story of aggressive collections agencies, the student loan people being unreasonable, inefficient, and incompetent and lives virtually ruined. It was clear to me that I was on the brink of entering the proverbial lion’s den, and I was terrified. Surely better to remain in hiding and let sleeping dogs lie? However, each time I braved the internet in search of a way forward, I always was lead back to the Canada Student Debt site and the name of John LeBlanc. I scoured the site, wanting to believe the testimonials and in John’s proactive, positive responses to posts by people who were clearly stressed, afraid and worn down by the apparent student loan default epidemic. I searched the internet for references beyond the Canada Student Debt site, but found little to verify, or discount, John LeBlanc, but in the end, I made a decision to put my faith in the recommendations I read, and with shaking hands, made the phone call.
I am unequivocally glad I did. John has guided and calmed me through what for me is a terrifying process. It is a gamble to trust in someone you have never met, whose office, branding or commercials you have never seen, but John has been living proof to me that good, honest people who are passionate about doing good are out there and that sometimes a leap of faith is exactly what it required. At this point, a few years into the journey, with some parts of my debt resolved, and the others in the process, I now ironically feel that the fact that John does not have flashy marketing or the typical press release type promotion for his business actually points to his credibility, as his efforts go into helping people swim up to the surface, and word-of-mouth testimonials such as these are promotion enough. Trust or don’t trust, the choice is yours, but put simply: John LeBlanc is a hero.
Please do not hesitate to message me if you would like to make contact to verify that I am indeed a satisfied customer. If you are like me, and are wondering whether or not to contact John, I cannot stress enough what a good decision this would be. Don’t expect instant results, or to constantly be at the top of his pile, but do have faith and follow his advice and put an end to the nightmare at last.

Wishing you wellness, Charlie.

Hi Charlie,

I would like to be able to contact you directly as I'm in a similar situation to you, being in the UK with default student loans. I've no idea the status of my loan, to be honest, and it's not just me but also my partner who have not made loan repayments. It's a long story. Anyway, we do want to return to Canada now and are exploring possibilities and options.

Is there any way that you can get in touch with me directly regarding this process and your work with John at CFW?

Best wishes.
