This website is a testimony to the problems Canadian Student Loan borrowers experienced from approximately 1996 to 2008 and until their loans were paid off.

The privatization of the Student Loans system by the Chretien and Martin Liberal governments broke the system and defaulted thousands of borrowers who were trying to pay their loans. There were even stories of suicide due to the harassment of borrowers.

Read the report that I prepared back in 2007 here. Canada Student Loans-The Need for Change Fortunately the new Conservative government at the time revamped the program and fixed the system for new borrowers, but borrowers under the previous program were left with ruined credit and continued harassment from debt collectors.

I call on the Canadian Government to apologize to the borrowers affected by this fiasco and make amends.

Unfortunately the Liberal government is again clobbering the Education system with their upcoming changes to International Student Visas. Yes, there's a problem, but instead of a well thought out plan, they have pulled the emergency brake on the train causing a derailment. This has introduced unprecedented instability for both private and public education institutions who serve both international and local students.

Universities can't plan. I've heard of courses being cut because the government has no process in place for universities to send the newly required acceptance letters to the government.

This means that students who have been accepted can not attend courses that start in the summer 2024 semester. With cut sections, current Canadian students will have trouble getting courses, and may have to switch to part-time which changes their enrollment status and might trigger repayment of their loans or ineligibility for funding. I've seen this before. It wreaks havoc on the student loan borrowers.

Again, the Liberal government has messed up the education environment. Will the new system needed in a rush for the acceptance letters be the new Arrivecan scandal?

I call on the government to implement a slower phased in approach and delay the requirement of the acceptance letters until a process is in place to submit these letters.

I have to concur here with other posts regarding The Canadian Financial Wellness Group and in particular John LeBlanc.  I came across this website simply by chance one day.  Myself and my wife have been suffering under tremendous debt and stress caused by this mounting debt for years.  We have previouslly went down many roads to eliminate and deal with this debt all to no avail.  While reading the various forums here I saw many posts by John offering his services.  I became a client of John's about 3 months ago and I can honestly say that he does what he says he can.  He gets results.  He can work with you no matter what your goals are and can tailor a solution that works with your current situation.  Given that up until now I have only been told to declare bankruptcy and in many situations to "go away we cannot help you", it was a shock to find an organization that cares and can help.  Please read my other posts outlining my full story if you want an interesting read.

Hello all!

I wanted to take the opportunity to offer heartfelt thanks on a job extremely well done by John "Johnny" LeBlanc of the Canadian Financial Wellness Group.  After briefly discussing my situation with John through this forum, and more in depth via email and telephone conversations over the course of a couple of weeks (including a week while he was on vacation, and the Easter long weekend!) John has helped me to get a handle on my student debt.

Whereas I was unable to negotiate reasonable repayment with the collectors, and grew weary of their "tactics", John was able to halt all phone calls, setup a payment schedule which was affordable for me, without leaving me destitute, and most importantly help me realize that, while student debt is a reality and a burden, it needn't be the ruling factor in my life.  It's not going to go away quickly, but it will go away eventually, and through working with John, it will be a much smoother ride, without the fear, stress and headaches.  I will continue to work with John, and I believe him when he says that he will be able to show me how to navigate through this minefield, manage my debt and eventually rehabilitate my credit.

While I know it will still be a long and bumby ride, I now feel as though I will be taking the trip in Range Rover as opposed to a go kart!  John's fees are reasonable and more than made up for with the peace of mind and renewed hope I received.  Despite what must be a monumental workload, I have found John to be accessable, trustworthy, knowledgable and very quick at doing what he says he'll do.

In short, I fully recommend the services of the CFW Group and John in particular, for anyone who could use the help of a consumate professional in helping with the student loan system.  Thank you very much John, and good luck to everyone!

Cheers,

Aaron

hey all

just thought i'd drop a quick line to recommend john leblanc of the cfw group.  in february, my husband and i were weighted down by the stress of student loan payments, in addition to all of our day-to-day expenses.  after seeing recommendations for john on this site, we decided we had nothing to lose and gave him a call.  it was the best thing we ever did for ourselves financially.  john snapped into action, getting in contact with our student loan creditors and arranging payment schedules.  the neatest thing was that nobody called our house anymore demanding payments immediately!  although he charges for his service, it is well worth the money spent to have peace of mind, and the ability to effectively manage our money.  our life has gotten much easier as a result of john, and we definitely recommend him to anyone who feels shafted by the student loan system!

I have been struggling with my student loans for a long time and I finally decided to try and get some help.  This was not an easy thing as there are not many places or people to go to.  Finally after reading an article in one of the Toronto papers on John Leblanc and the CFW group I found some assistance.  John was extremely helpful and now a huge burden has been lifted off my back.  I would highly recommend John and the CFW group for anyone having any sort of financial trouble.

Thanks

I would like to let people know how great John Leblanc is and how wonderful it is to have found someone who has helped me the way this man has.  I probably have the worst credit in history...due to student loans.  I was floundering for so long trying to make ends meet until one day I had to file bankruptcy.  I really felt I had no other choice in the matter.  Even after bankruptcy because as you all know this does not wipe out student loans I was still having problems.  I was wondering what I went to school for all these years....I might as well have never went with the debt I have.  I had creditors harassing me, etc.  I was searching the net one day and came across this site.  I saw his name and contacted this man.  My life has one less major stress in it now.  He has taken care of everything for me.  We are still in the process of things, but I tell ya...he is a saint.  I would strongly recommend if you have student loan debt to consider calling John.  You will not regret it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Desperately need help!

You all have finally taken the plunge and contacted Johnny. You are all in good hands now.

I have been there too. Days when I just did not want to wake up and go to work because of the creditors calling and threatening me and harassing me at all hours of the day. I would even hate going to my family house to visit because even they were getting calls from the collectors.

But all this is in the past. And it is all thanks to Johnny. I can honestly say that he is a lifesaver.
Had it not been for him, I would still be stuck in a rut, depressed and very unhappy. This is no way to live.

Johnny, thanks for who you are, and what you do.
