This website is a testimony to the problems Canadian Student Loan borrowers experienced from approximately 1996 to 2008 and until their loans were paid off.

The privatization of the Student Loans system by the Chretien and Martin Liberal governments broke the system and defaulted thousands of borrowers who were trying to pay their loans. There were even stories of suicide due to the harassment of borrowers.

Read the report that I prepared back in 2007 here. Canada Student Loans-The Need for Change Fortunately the new Conservative government at the time revamped the program and fixed the system for new borrowers, but borrowers under the previous program were left with ruined credit and continued harassment from debt collectors.

I call on the Canadian Government to apologize to the borrowers affected by this fiasco and make amends.

Unfortunately the Liberal government is again clobbering the Education system with their upcoming changes to International Student Visas. Yes, there's a problem, but instead of a well thought out plan, they have pulled the emergency brake on the train causing a derailment. This has introduced unprecedented instability for both private and public education institutions who serve both international and local students.

Universities can't plan. I've heard of courses being cut because the government has no process in place for universities to send the newly required acceptance letters to the government.

This means that students who have been accepted can not attend courses that start in the summer 2024 semester. With cut sections, current Canadian students will have trouble getting courses, and may have to switch to part-time which changes their enrollment status and might trigger repayment of their loans or ineligibility for funding. I've seen this before. It wreaks havoc on the student loan borrowers.

Again, the Liberal government has messed up the education environment. Will the new system needed in a rush for the acceptance letters be the new Arrivecan scandal?

I call on the government to implement a slower phased in approach and delay the requirement of the acceptance letters until a process is in place to submit these letters.

I am writing this for my girlfriend whom has 2 jobs obtained through ehr college training.  But her student loan payments are ridiculously high.  She has applied for all forms of releif such as interest releif etc..

Her required payments are 700$ a month, she pays 600$ a month in rent then her car insurance as well about 300$ per month.  her income each month is about 1600.00 after taxes which leaves no room for food or gas to get to work.

She is falling into a depression due to all this on her shoulders.  Everytime she calls between Royal bank and national student loan centre she is given a different story policy or procedure on how to handle her request.  For example with the interest releif request which she has faxed in 8 times now 5 times it has been "lost" or as they say not received.

Student loan centre tells her they need soemthing from Royal bank, then Royal bank contradicts that saying she needs forms faxed to them from National student loans.  Then she calls bank the loan centre and receives a brand new story from them.

She is making ehr payments everymonth to avoid been sent to collectiosn but it is next to impossible since its a constant contradiction she receives.

She has been told by Royal bank 7 out of the 8 times that they will put her loan on hold until they receive the documents from National student loan centre.  but continue to take payments from her. National students loans tells her they have no idea what the information the bank would require as it is their decision.

They have both refused a conference call bewteen Royal bank and National student loans saying it is not possible to 3 way call on their type of phone system which I know is untrue as I have worked for a financial institution in their call centre and we did conference calls all the time.

We are in Etobicoke, and have even tried going into the National Student loan centre in mississauga and were refused a meeting in person.

What can we do about this?  I mean she wnats to pay this loan off but the amount being asked is ridiculous and if she can't afford gas to get to work then she would inevitably lose her jjob and default on the loan.

Please help.  PLEASE  I'm not asking anyone to do the leg work, I only want advice and to be pointed in the right direction, get true honest answers without contradiction.

Thank you in advance
