Topic: Difficulty getting issue addressed with Equifax Posted: 22/January/2008 at 3:29pm |
I followed the requirements exactly to dispute the continued inclusion of some info on my credit bureau.
I sent all the required documentation and a request to review the matter (basically, my opd being stuck on there when in fact the government of BC closed the program)
What I got back was "Further to your request, a disclosure of your personal credit file as of (date) follows." The issue wasnt even discussed or dealt with or even addressed.
So I send off another package of documentation. This time with even more info and a request to discuss the matter.
What I got back today was "Further to your request, a disclosure of your personal credit file as of (date) follows."
Ok, do these people actually read the letters we send them?

In my last call to equifax, they person on the phone agreed that the info was incorrect and should be removed. They said they would initiate an investigation.
I get a letter yesterday saying that the investigation has been concluded an no change has been made to my file. They say the CBV has confirmed that the information is correct. Its obviously wrong. They've reported my last payment date as 05 when I've been making monthly payments.
What is important to note is that I was negatively reported FOR PAYING MY LOAN. If I hadnt started paying my Ontario loan, my credit bureau would have been intact.
This system disgusts me. I'm trying to get through to Equifax but all I get for the last three days is a busy signal.

Hi Mark,
Given that you have tried resolving this with Equifax and have been ignored perhaps you could file a formal complaint with the BC Business Practices and Consumer Protection Authority who are responsible for enforcing provincial consumer law in BC.
It would seem Equifax is violating the law

Contents of reports
109 (1) A reporting agency must not include in a report given under section 108 (1) (a) [to whom reports may be given] any of the following:
(b) information not based on the most reliable evidence reasonably available;
As the information is not accurate they have to fix it.

Well, Equifax has come through... they did a re-investigation and its been resolved... thats the good news... now on to Transunion!
They did say however that dealing with the OSAP loan was challenging...
The collection agency was obviously given wrong information...
I should mention that I found a ton of numbers that lead nowhere but through persistence found a few media relations numbers and left messages that there service was unacceptable and that I had been trying for days but only getting a busy signal.
I got a call back the next day.
The person assured me the info should be removed and then instigated a re-investigation... then they eventually came through... or so I thought!

Ok. wrote too soon. I was promised that the stuff was removed. I order my credit bureau online on Mar 6th and its not there.
I go into my bank to discuss my situation on Mar 6th. They pull my credit bureau and all the items are STILL THERE. Bank says they only use Equifax.
Seems the credit bureau that I got with the "Score Power" is out of sync with the info being reported to the trade.
More calls to Equifax! Will keep you posted. Needless to say I'm asking for a refund for my credit report fee.
They've certainly lost credibility with me.

Mark, you should file a complaint with Equifax's regulator in BC
the Business Practices and Consumer Protection Authority (this would get Equifax's attention).
good luck

Equifax called back, they said the stuff is not there! I'll reverify with the bank
I guess I'll have to file a complaint with the BC regulator. I'll talk to equifax again.
This exact same thing happened last year. Printed off my report and stuff wasnt there, went into the bank and it was there.

They guy comes back on line and says he's on hold with the credit department... please be patient. So I wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait... I send out a few emails and wait and wait... do some work ... and wait... and then he comes back on line and says "sorry, the credit department is now closed, you'll have to call back tomorrow morning."
AHHHHHHH!!!!
Stay posted for tomorrows installment!

Well, its all resolved. What I learned is that if a bank pulls your credit file, then it usually stays on file for 30 - 60 days... If your credit bureau changes, then they may not see the new info....
Seems a credit report was accidentally pulled in february so they werent seeing the updated info.
Although the people at TD stated that they had pulled a new credit bureau on march 7, they in fact were looking at the old report. Thats now been straightened out.
So now that they've pulled a new credit bureau they see the correct info.
My branch manager at TD was very helpful. And equifax ended up being very helpful too.
I've found that Equifax does not remove credit inquiries even if they are in error unless its fraud.

I totally feel your frustration. I have issues with NSLSC concerning my bankruptcy and the fact that I have been discharged since 2006 and they have not yet changed their records.
Finally I spoke with a rep that agreed with me however an investigation will have to take place. Then they call you and tell you "oh too bad for you, nothing we're going to do here" not in those exact words but that's exactly what it sounds like to me even when I have proof that they messed up.
So frustrating, what can you do?
