This website is a testimony to the problems Canadian Student Loan borrowers experienced from approximately 1996 to 2008 and until their loans were paid off.

The privatization of the Student Loans system by the Chretien and Martin Liberal governments broke the system and defaulted thousands of borrowers who were trying to pay their loans. There were even stories of suicide due to the harassment of borrowers.

Read the report that I prepared back in 2007 here. Canada Student Loans-The Need for Change Fortunately the new Conservative government at the time revamped the program and fixed the system for new borrowers, but borrowers under the previous program were left with ruined credit and continued harassment from debt collectors.

I call on the Canadian Government to apologize to the borrowers affected by this fiasco and make amends.

Unfortunately the Liberal government is again clobbering the Education system with their upcoming changes to International Student Visas. Yes, there's a problem, but instead of a well thought out plan, they have pulled the emergency brake on the train causing a derailment. This has introduced unprecedented instability for both private and public education institutions who serve both international and local students.

Universities can't plan. I've heard of courses being cut because the government has no process in place for universities to send the newly required acceptance letters to the government.

This means that students who have been accepted can not attend courses that start in the summer 2024 semester. With cut sections, current Canadian students will have trouble getting courses, and may have to switch to part-time which changes their enrollment status and might trigger repayment of their loans or ineligibility for funding. I've seen this before. It wreaks havoc on the student loan borrowers.

Again, the Liberal government has messed up the education environment. Will the new system needed in a rush for the acceptance letters be the new Arrivecan scandal?

I call on the government to implement a slower phased in approach and delay the requirement of the acceptance letters until a process is in place to submit these letters.

I am british and my wife is canadian, and we both live in England. My wife is pregnant and she recently got a phone call from a collections agency about one of her student loans. She has one with another agency but after being rude and abrasive to begin with they have been quite coopertive.

The recent call was about a loan that she had heard nothing of for over 4 years so it was quite a surprise when the call came through. They started by saying that they were lawyers and they wanted the full amount paid in 2 weeks otherwise they would go to court and sue and send collections baliffs round in the UK to collect the money. We sought some advice form elsewhere and were told they there was nothin gthey could do to us in the UK but if we wanted to ever live in Canada we would need to sort it out. My wife always intended on paying these but money was never available to pay.

This started to stress us both out considerably. When they phoned back they were quite polite and when told that to get the sort of money they were asking for together was neigh on impossible they started negotiating down. I started to get a little suspicious of this and decided to post a few questions on the internet. John was the only one to respond and he did so within 2 days. My wife spoke to him on the phone and he told us that the collections were unable to negotiate as low as they had and were just seeing how much they could get in a lump payment before stinging us for the rest after. He offered to negotiate on our behalf and also try and reduce the amount we had to pay.

He sent the forms through staright away but despite this we still did get one more call from the collections agancy pushing their luck. I took the call this time and when I mentioned that all furhter communication was to through the CFWG it really irritated them. The guy started shouting and not letting me talk and threatening to say to the RBC that we were being obstructive, but I was happy to remain calm and just prove to myself that the guy was a total idiot as I knew that John had already sent out the forms instructing them not to contact us again and informing the RBC that he was dealing with this from now on. We have had no calls since from the agency.

His fee is extreemly resonable even when only you taking into account the piece of mind you have from knowing that someone who actually knows the system is working for your better interests and that is not even taking into account the amount of work he does as well as the renegotiation on your behalf. It also helps your rating with the bank as you are seen to be trying to resolve the problem not shy away from it and this is something that the collections agency would never communicate on your behalf. They are only after one thing and that is a big a percentage of the pie as they can get.

If you find yurself in a similar situation he is the way to go
