This website is a testimony to the problems Canadian Student Loan borrowers experienced from approximately 1996 to 2008 and until their loans were paid off.

The privatization of the Student Loans system by the Chretien and Martin Liberal governments broke the system and defaulted thousands of borrowers who were trying to pay their loans. There were even stories of suicide due to the harassment of borrowers.

Read the report that I prepared back in 2007 here. Canada Student Loans-The Need for Change Fortunately the new Conservative government at the time revamped the program and fixed the system for new borrowers, but borrowers under the previous program were left with ruined credit and continued harassment from debt collectors.

I call on the Canadian Government to apologize to the borrowers affected by this fiasco and make amends.

Unfortunately the Liberal government is again clobbering the Education system with their upcoming changes to International Student Visas. Yes, there's a problem, but instead of a well thought out plan, they have pulled the emergency brake on the train causing a derailment. This has introduced unprecedented instability for both private and public education institutions who serve both international and local students.

Universities can't plan. I've heard of courses being cut because the government has no process in place for universities to send the newly required acceptance letters to the government.

This means that students who have been accepted can not attend courses that start in the summer 2024 semester. With cut sections, current Canadian students will have trouble getting courses, and may have to switch to part-time which changes their enrollment status and might trigger repayment of their loans or ineligibility for funding. I've seen this before. It wreaks havoc on the student loan borrowers.

Again, the Liberal government has messed up the education environment. Will the new system needed in a rush for the acceptance letters be the new Arrivecan scandal?

I call on the government to implement a slower phased in approach and delay the requirement of the acceptance letters until a process is in place to submit these letters.

Johnny...

For us who can't just call...Wink

I've tried twice in the past six months to contact you...once in your old email address, and once last week through the Contact Us tab.

However, I don't think Tanya or Terri know me from Adam, or my situation...and as I'm temporarily working in the UK for the next month, email is the only way I can keep in contact...

It's kind of important, as my mum is getting harassing phone calls again...

What's the best way to handle this?

Hi Poly,

I just got your email yesterday. Email your tele # and I will call you. also, make sure you remind me what the time difference is over in your neck of the European woods. I wouldn't want to call you at 4 AM. LOL (I could hear your reply if it were to happen .)

Johnny, I'm in the UK until 15 August. And I don't have your email address with me. If I send a message through your website, will you get my phone number that way?

If so, you can call between 7 pm and 11 pm GMT until the 15th (that's between 3 and 7 Atlantic time)...

Hi Kool

I'd like to help you but I am not offering pro bono services at this time. If you would like to become a client and receive assistance, you can reach me at 902-835-1210. The guidance you require is not so simple. It is going to take some time.

Cost for this service is not that expensive. Could be anywhere from $80.00 to $150.00, dependng on the scope of work.

Write to me if you like.

Johnny

Hi johnny,
I am asking for your help after dealing with my student loans for many years. The repayment on my loans was to start in 2003 and I had a very difficult time with them and they fell behind and went to collections. I have one loan with social development canada which I have been paying less than they asked for but everything seems to be okay. I have a nfld provincial loan which is being paid monthly also at less than they want. The loan I am having trouble with is my original rbc loan for 15k. It went to Alliance one and I paid so much each month. Then I stopped getting statements from them and didnt pay since probably feb 2008. Then last month I got a letter from NorDon collections saying they were going to sue. I tried to contact their representative with no luck. I tried many times but did not leave a message or a telephone number knowing they would use it to harrass me later. I did send them cheques for $150 per month until february 2009. 2 of these cheques have been cashed already. Yesterday I got another letter saying they are pursueing legal action within 48 hours. I got very upset by this. I called them and mr. Rahmahan? wasnt there again but spoke with a colleciton agent Chris who basically tried to hassle me for the full amount.
I told him I am currently on maternity leave and paying the three loans as much as I can. I told him it is impossible to settle the loan or pay it out and that I am trying to cooperate but I dont appreciate these letters. He was very rude of course and said they may not accept my payments? 2 have already been cashed.
I want to set up an arrangment with them but they are very uncooperative. I have a baby thats due anyday now and I am so upset that I have to deal with this right now. This should be a happy time of my life.
I need to know in the short term if they will actually pursue legal action against me while on maternity leave and making payments? I have no assets for them to take and it seems like they are just trying to be bullies but it is stressing me out.
Please let me know. I would like to also work out something long term if possible in a few months.
I have tried to contact you on your cfw page but the email isnt working and I cant get through by phone.
