This website is a testimony to the problems Canadian Student Loan borrowers experienced from approximately 1996 to 2008 and until their loans were paid off.

The privatization of the Student Loans system by the Chretien and Martin Liberal governments broke the system and defaulted thousands of borrowers who were trying to pay their loans. There were even stories of suicide due to the harassment of borrowers.

Read the report that I prepared back in 2007 here. Canada Student Loans-The Need for Change Fortunately the new Conservative government at the time revamped the program and fixed the system for new borrowers, but borrowers under the previous program were left with ruined credit and continued harassment from debt collectors.

I call on the Canadian Government to apologize to the borrowers affected by this fiasco and make amends.

Unfortunately the Liberal government is again clobbering the Education system with their upcoming changes to International Student Visas. Yes, there's a problem, but instead of a well thought out plan, they have pulled the emergency brake on the train causing a derailment. This has introduced unprecedented instability for both private and public education institutions who serve both international and local students.

Universities can't plan. I've heard of courses being cut because the government has no process in place for universities to send the newly required acceptance letters to the government.

This means that students who have been accepted can not attend courses that start in the summer 2024 semester. With cut sections, current Canadian students will have trouble getting courses, and may have to switch to part-time which changes their enrollment status and might trigger repayment of their loans or ineligibility for funding. I've seen this before. It wreaks havoc on the student loan borrowers.

Again, the Liberal government has messed up the education environment. Will the new system needed in a rush for the acceptance letters be the new Arrivecan scandal?

I call on the government to implement a slower phased in approach and delay the requirement of the acceptance letters until a process is in place to submit these letters.

Anyone have any dealings with this agency?

I received a call from them, enquring about another person - when I asked some basic questions the agency became abusive and threatened to flag my credit? whatever that meant.

Are these companies not regulated? how is it that they can just call up anyone and make accusations, the person then said they will continue to call the same number.

I have heard of them before. I think one of the banks involved int he old risk shared program is now trying them out to see what results they can bring to their table. You asked them questions and they said that? WOW. LOL That certainly does not demonstrate a good result by any stretch. There is certainly nothing surreptitious about the methods collectors use to conduct a skip trace. LOL I would like to say that this conduct is unlawful but for lack of a better term I would simply term that behavior as being very egregious. What this collector is saying is "You don't ask me qwuestions, I ask you the questions. I am the boss here. Shut up or else I will personally cause damage to your credit portfolio because I can", which of course is impossible.

Are these companies regulated? Well, that is a good question. LOL Ummm ... yeah, but the authorities in most provinces do not reprimand them. In fact, the authorites appear to protect them, especially in Ontario. Alberta, well they go after businesses and try to restrict any business that tries to tap into Alberta markets from outside their province. They are unreasonable and their directorate has some issues. They are brutal under their FTA drape and manipulate law for their own best interest, which of course is a gross injustice against whom they are attacking. In Ontario the authorites that oversee collection agencies say that the courts are the problem, but yet they investigate nealy no complaints at all. LOL The Ontario government relies on the following collection agencies to collect debt for them:

Total Credit Recovery
NCO Financial Systems
CBV Collection Services
Accounts Recovery Corp
NorDon Collection Network

If the Ontario government were to reprimand and expose one of these agencies for unlawful conduct or other egregious acts against people then they would have a very difficult time explaining why they even use these groups. The government is supposed to protect people from these groups but instead they use them to collect their Ontario loans and other government accounts receivables. LOL  CBC Marketplace could have a field day and a weekly program with the use of The CFW Group has for them. LOL

BTW - Do you have the name of the collector? I'll show you how to deal with this imbecile.

thanks for the info, very arrogant and disrespectful.

I filed a complain in BC with the Consumer Protection Authority as they have  license with them.

the collector or agent was asking for a person who does not live at the residence etc, rather than explain the collector became belligerent etc.

anyways I was shocked but reading this website it sounds liek the norm and not many reputable companies.
