This website is a testimony to the problems Canadian Student Loan borrowers experienced from approximately 1996 to 2008 and until their loans were paid off.

The privatization of the Student Loans system by the Chretien and Martin Liberal governments broke the system and defaulted thousands of borrowers who were trying to pay their loans. There were even stories of suicide due to the harassment of borrowers.

Read the report that I prepared back in 2007 here. Canada Student Loans-The Need for Change Fortunately the new Conservative government at the time revamped the program and fixed the system for new borrowers, but borrowers under the previous program were left with ruined credit and continued harassment from debt collectors.

I call on the Canadian Government to apologize to the borrowers affected by this fiasco and make amends.

Unfortunately the Liberal government is again clobbering the Education system with their upcoming changes to International Student Visas. Yes, there's a problem, but instead of a well thought out plan, they have pulled the emergency brake on the train causing a derailment. This has introduced unprecedented instability for both private and public education institutions who serve both international and local students.

Universities can't plan. I've heard of courses being cut because the government has no process in place for universities to send the newly required acceptance letters to the government.

This means that students who have been accepted can not attend courses that start in the summer 2024 semester. With cut sections, current Canadian students will have trouble getting courses, and may have to switch to part-time which changes their enrollment status and might trigger repayment of their loans or ineligibility for funding. I've seen this before. It wreaks havoc on the student loan borrowers.

Again, the Liberal government has messed up the education environment. Will the new system needed in a rush for the acceptance letters be the new Arrivecan scandal?

I call on the government to implement a slower phased in approach and delay the requirement of the acceptance letters until a process is in place to submit these letters.

I'm going to try to explain the situation as quickly as possible:

- Bf took out loans because he attended school from sept 2003- sept 2004 with a debt of 10000.00
- After this, he suffered immense hardship, and was unable to even begin paying his student loands (working a Quiznos for pennies. It was a very rough time for us.)
- They never contacted him regarding his student loans in the beginning at all, not by mail or by phone and to this day, he's never spoken to anyone about it because they never called him.
- 2 years ago, he started getting letters from CRA that he owed $300.00 a month. Being an anxious person and disliking confrontation, he ignored the letters (wanted to avoid the harrassement)
- Today, he got served with a Notice of Claim.

We're in NB and I'm assuming since he never once awknowledged this loan at all, and we're approaching the 6 year mark, they are suing because the loan is going to get status barred? My assumption could be wrong though!

Now here's the deal. What are our options here? Financially, around two years ago or so, we began to improve financially (after I filed for bankruptcy and promotions, ect) and to be honest, we could afford to pay the $300.00/month or so a month they are asking.

Do we contact the Lawyer listed on the notice of claim? The paperwork is confusing. There is no court date, just things about 30 days notice and something about giving assets instead of the money(my bf has NO assets under his name, only an electric bill, which they can have! :P)

I might be pregnant right now and this is the worst timing in the world so I want to AVOID a garnish of wages. Of course we don't have the lump sum money to pay back, so monthly payments would be our only option.

Will they work with us for the monthly payment?

Need help!!!

If you want this addressed and solved you can give me a call. YOu can hire an attorney though if you want, but it iwll cost you quite a bit more. I specialize in these particular areas of mediation though.
