This website is a testimony to the problems Canadian Student Loan borrowers experienced from approximately 1996 to 2008 and until their loans were paid off.

The privatization of the Student Loans system by the Chretien and Martin Liberal governments broke the system and defaulted thousands of borrowers who were trying to pay their loans. There were even stories of suicide due to the harassment of borrowers.

Read the report that I prepared back in 2007 here. Canada Student Loans-The Need for Change Fortunately the new Conservative government at the time revamped the program and fixed the system for new borrowers, but borrowers under the previous program were left with ruined credit and continued harassment from debt collectors.

I call on the Canadian Government to apologize to the borrowers affected by this fiasco and make amends.

Unfortunately the Liberal government is again clobbering the Education system with their upcoming changes to International Student Visas. Yes, there's a problem, but instead of a well thought out plan, they have pulled the emergency brake on the train causing a derailment. This has introduced unprecedented instability for both private and public education institutions who serve both international and local students.

Universities can't plan. I've heard of courses being cut because the government has no process in place for universities to send the newly required acceptance letters to the government.

This means that students who have been accepted can not attend courses that start in the summer 2024 semester. With cut sections, current Canadian students will have trouble getting courses, and may have to switch to part-time which changes their enrollment status and might trigger repayment of their loans or ineligibility for funding. I've seen this before. It wreaks havoc on the student loan borrowers.

Again, the Liberal government has messed up the education environment. Will the new system needed in a rush for the acceptance letters be the new Arrivecan scandal?

I call on the government to implement a slower phased in approach and delay the requirement of the acceptance letters until a process is in place to submit these letters.

I am in the midst of rehabilitating my student loans. I was told the criteria that needed to be done (in which I did by borrowing $4000) to find out that there is a judgement on me from the CRA. I have been trying to work with them to remove it in order for me to reapply for OSAP and none the less have yet to hear back. I have contacted my MP and they are going to try and get me a call back but my question is, if the CRA decides not to remove it what can I do next to get this done? I really need it gone as now I am further in debt with borrowing monies that I can not pay back??PLEASE HELP

Once a judgment is taken they do not back out of it.  It is important to get something in writing before you pay ANY collection center offering you a benefit like this.  Collectors (first, second, or third) only care about money here. Truth is rarely told. Welcome to the Canada Student Loans system.

Solve Student Debt specializes in solutions for students and graduates in student loan default, and those at risk of defaulting.

I'm wondering how you were notified of the judgement by the CRA? Also, after the notification of your judgement, did CRA stop sending you monthly statementsÉ

I ask this because I`ve been receiving monthly statements for about two years now but just recently they stopped sending them al together.  Also recently when I away for a few weeks, I returned home to find a delivery notice in my mailbox to pick up a registered letter at the post office.  Unfortunately the letter as only held at the post office for 15 days and by the time I returned home and got the notice, the 15 days had expired and the letter was returned to sender.  I still have no idea who the registered letter is from but I fear it may have been something from CRA notifying me of something serious.  My experience is that registered letters are seldom good news.

Basically I cannot help but wonder if anyone else was notified by the CRA, via registered letter, of a successful judgement or did you only find out by way of regular mail.  I don`t want to contact CRA to ask if it was them, because if it was not them, my mere contact to inquire about it may affect my stats barred status.

Any input or sharing of your own experience with this issue would be most helpful.  Thanks
Cheers
