This website is a testimony to the problems Canadian Student Loan borrowers experienced from approximately 1996 to 2008 and until their loans were paid off.

The privatization of the Student Loans system by the Chretien and Martin Liberal governments broke the system and defaulted thousands of borrowers who were trying to pay their loans. There were even stories of suicide due to the harassment of borrowers.

Read the report that I prepared back in 2007 here. Canada Student Loans-The Need for Change Fortunately the new Conservative government at the time revamped the program and fixed the system for new borrowers, but borrowers under the previous program were left with ruined credit and continued harassment from debt collectors.

I call on the Canadian Government to apologize to the borrowers affected by this fiasco and make amends.

Unfortunately the Liberal government is again clobbering the Education system with their upcoming changes to International Student Visas. Yes, there's a problem, but instead of a well thought out plan, they have pulled the emergency brake on the train causing a derailment. This has introduced unprecedented instability for both private and public education institutions who serve both international and local students.

Universities can't plan. I've heard of courses being cut because the government has no process in place for universities to send the newly required acceptance letters to the government.

This means that students who have been accepted can not attend courses that start in the summer 2024 semester. With cut sections, current Canadian students will have trouble getting courses, and may have to switch to part-time which changes their enrollment status and might trigger repayment of their loans or ineligibility for funding. I've seen this before. It wreaks havoc on the student loan borrowers.

Again, the Liberal government has messed up the education environment. Will the new system needed in a rush for the acceptance letters be the new Arrivecan scandal?

I call on the government to implement a slower phased in approach and delay the requirement of the acceptance letters until a process is in place to submit these letters.

In my travels to china, I have learned that the symbol for depression is two trees. Like being stuck in a deep thick forest with no light, and unable to clear a path, depression is similar.

I felt like I was stuck in such a forest at first. But I learned that I am not in the forest, only my student loan is. If I can learn to see the valleys and open space in my life, the things that I cherish, then I am less despondent and more hopefull. One day the path will be cleared.

I have also learned that there are three types of hope... small, medium and heavy... heavy refers to a thirst... this is a dangerous hope... when I expect the problem to be solved immediately. That wont happen with this problem. It requires planning and a long term solution by our government.

The best hope for the student loan is a medium hope... it will take some time, and the likely hood of solving the problem is realistic!

Realistic hope, with a light hope for getting through each day...

I am not my student loan problem. there are many wonderful facets of our lives that can be enjoyed. Stick your student loan in the student loan forest, become educated about dealing with collectors and the rules, and enjoy the other parts of the landscape!

This is what works for me!

Mark

I guess it is just how we think about things in life is the way in which we deal with them.

Thanks Mark..

How about taking a virtual walk in the forest?

https://www.forests-forever.com/indexf.html

Enjoy the scenery and the relaxing sounds as you take your walk. Be at peace, forget your student loan as you wonder along the path.. (use your imagination a bit here..) Aren't the birds and butterflies wonderful!  This is a great place to go when you need to get away and find some peace in your life.. Don't forget to leave the student loan in the forest when your finished with your walk!..  Best thing about this is it's free!

Hi Casey,

Lovely piece you have constructed. Is this a "work-in-progress"? Looking
forward to more.

Hi Floozie..

Sorry but I can't take any credit for the site.. If you look closely, you will see it is a project of Fujifilm. I ran across it when I was looking for some info on the software that came with a digital camera I bought..

Opps shh... I shouldn't have mentioned the camera.. I'm not suppose to have anything like that... I was suppose to send the money to the government.. now the collector is gone to come and take it away..     Fat chance!  or should I say when pigs fly.. Life's too short and I'm getting too dam old to care! I'm going to allow myself to have some fun in my life. Next time I take a walk in the forest I'm going to leave the whole government there.. The way they manage student loans, they'll all get lost!

It feels good to laugh, even when things are crappy!

Hang in there and don't give up.. some how, some way things will work out.. (I'm trying to stay positive here)

Casey..
