My brother got a call today from Nordon asking for me to contact them.  They didn't say they were Nordon just that it was concerning a government matter, but I searched the number online and found who they were.

My last year in school was 2000.  In 2005 I was given both CPP and ODSP permanent disability status.

My questions:  Is it worth it to even bother trying to get permanent disability benefit from the government and have my loans cleared, or will that just be an endless headache?  I mean since they can't take any money from my disability cheques the collection agency can't really do a thing to me other than harass me.

I just ignore any collection agency calls (actually due to my disability I don't answer the phone ever and only have it in case of emergency), is there any sense in trying to talk to Nordon and tell them I am permanently disabled and so not going to ever be able to pay them?  Or should I just continue with ignoring them totally?

another question....since my above questions weren't answered I am guessing that they can't really be answered

but what about this, I have heard the term statute barred....I am not sure what that means, but I know my last loan was in 2000 and I am wondering if my loans might be statute barred and what I can do to find out

Sorry no reply was given....  so I'll try to answer some of your questions....

Disability relief can be difficult to get.... check for info on the http://www.canlearn.ca website

I believe that applying for disability would mean that you would be acknowledging the debt, and therefore you would lose the statute barred option if it does exist for you.

This sub-forum will help answer your questions about statute barred.

You might consider contacting John Leblanc at CFW Group..... he charges fees, but could advise you on whether it is statute barred or not and what to do - and what not to do.

Let us know how things go...

I think I am better off just doing nothing.  Although I get a notice from revenue canada each year warning me that my taxes may be used to pay off the debt, it never is, I guess because I am on cpp disability and odsp.  I still get all my gst cheques and stuff, best to leave well enough alone i think
