Coles Notes version of situation:
I have a very old Ontario Student Loan.  For the past 3 years any income tax refund has been grabbed by them (I'm fine with that).
A collection agency is involved and of course making a nuisance of themselves.
The amount I owe is not huge.
So I have 2 questions:
Does anyone know if the provincial government "sells" the debt to the collection agency or if they are merely contracting them and everyone gets their cut ?
Is it possible/worth while to try and settle with them for a lesser amount ?  Has this ever been done successful in Ontario ?
I'd appreciate any feedback on this.

1. Assigned out to collect, not sold. Government is not permitted to sell accounts to debt buyers.

2. It is possible yes. We ( specialize in helping student loan borrowers appeal for compromise and settle student debt (Canadian, American, and UK) OSAP can be quite negotiable under the right circumstances. A case has to be made though and if you actually have a case you can save a lot of money and the cost to you is very small. If you want to know what sort of case you have and if it is something we could help you with jump on the free assessment link here and someone will get back to you.
