I discovered this page, out of desperation, late one night.  I had moved to Taiwan to get work after a series of low wage jobs in Canada that led my loans to collection agencies.  After a few years of making payments here and there, I decided to make a serious effort to repay the debts.  I had never paid much attention to what I had borrowed and two portions, through the partial payments, were almost for the exact same amount.  I didn't bother to look at the file numbers, I assumed the papers were for the same loan but printed on different dates with the interest causing the totals to be slightly different.  I know, very dumb mistake!  I had been paying my other two portions and the agencies (ARC and NCO) and their representatives were very cooperative.  When I noticed the paper had a different file number I immediately contacted  the assigned agency (CBCL) and expressed my wish to repay the debt.  The women began threatening me with the filing of a judgement and rejected my offers until she had me worked up to an amount I couldn't hope to repay.  I agreed to it because she had me so rattled on the phone.  I was paying the others a minimum of $200 a month and usually more but the CBCL rep was demanding $1500 immediately ($10,000 loan)and $700 a month afterwards.

I was so desperate that I began searching for info on student debts and any solutions.  I stumbled on this forum where I saw John LeBlanc's name many times and always on a positive note.  I immediately called him and within days I was on a fair payment plan of $125 to each of the three portions and I actually saved enough that I am trying to settle one of the loans at this moment!
