I remember the first time CBCL contacted me. It was because I had missed two student loan payments. I talked to Carol Benjamin and she was the biggest bitch in the world!!! At the time, I didn't know my rights, I was just plain scared. She told me to go to my family and get the money from them!! This was a Sat and she said I had to have the money by Mon!!! Almost 3 grand!!! My mom told me to go see a financial advisor. He told me that they can't take blood from a stone. We worked out a budget and decided on an amount that I could afford, (I was working as a waitress, so it wasn't much). When I call Ms. Benjamin back, and tell her that I have seen a finacial advisor, well, she hit the roof. She told me not to threaten her with that, and that I could only go to advisors approved by them!! Than she called me a liar and threatened me with an audit. I told her to go ahead. I said I am paying this amount, and if you don't like it, too bad. Go ahead and dock my wages, you'll get less from that than you would if I paid you. I have recently got married, and now they are calling me again. I have made all of my payments on time, but I think they want more from me now that I have a husband. Well, he's laid off and on unemployment, so they will get nowhere. Sorry, I had to vent.

Vent away, Niki. You did the right thing, and handled her well, not falling for her crap. They'll say anything to intimidate, and have crushed some pretty tough spirits out there...so: Poly ------------- Home is where you are allowed to prosper. |

I'm not 100% on my rights. Do they have the right to dock my wages and take my assests?

They have no right. You have to be sued by the creditor or their
agent. that means going to court, getting a judgement, enforcing
a judgement, etc. Usually this means no commission for the
collection agents, and if this is for the government portion of
your CSL, there are guidelines that the agency is supposed to follow
(aka suing only as a last resort type of thing). If I read Johnny correctly, CBCL is about to lose all their CSL accounts, and is trying to do a massive cash grab. I'd expect lots of abuse from them in the short term. Just leave a pillow by your phone. When they call and start abusing you, just say "hold please" and put the phone down on the pillow. I talked to CIBC about the cbcl file recall and they are still
denying it.......well the guy I talked to said "I am not aware of that". I also told him about the numerous laws they broke regarding my file and he said "We have no control over how they operate". "You hired them", I said, "you put money in their pocket". |

Well, I've not posted here since I found you. I've taken comfort from your existence and also some advice. I've contacted both Diane Finley and her official critic. CBCL has certainly cranked the abuse to top notch. Unbelievable. I confess that I'm a bit intimidated after he finally hung up on me. That's why I'm here again. CBCL has known from the start why I am unable to pay anything. I am unemployed and indicated that since filing bankruptcy and then my child's birth I have lived by the charity of others. I told them I was aware of my responsibilities and would contact them immediately upon having any financial means to negotiate anything. His comments were horrible. My daughter, her father and I get quite stressed out after each call. They have even called my husband's cell phone and repeatedly spoke abusively to him. I left a message on their machine indicating that such activity must immediately cease and then the abusive calls to me got worse. If I have only a pitance in the bank, which is my daughter's child tax benefit, if I own/operate a car worth less than $5k can they would they will they do anything to me? ausculto |

I have been having a problem with cbcl..first off i was trying to clear up a debt i had with td visa and i was told that it was in the hands of cbcl.. i contacted cbcl to clear it up (which was on the 17th of april) and the gentleman(an over statement)BY THE NAME OF mr.lando EXT 6153 @ (416) 753-2575 told me he could reduce one of the debts from $883 to $480 and the other from$955 to $500... WELLLL... here in the mail ( my last known address which is my mothers house)comes a letter stating that the deal he gave me for $500 actually noted on the letter that i needed to pay $200.04....WOW i said and told my mom to rush to the bank and pay it .... upon me calling this man and getting the offer, they obviously had my NEW address in a NEW province. Another letter was now sent to me in calgary for the acct owing the $883 offering me a special discount of up to 65% off. The letter stated that i needed to call to qualify for the discount(which I did). I called back to get this special offer and i was transfered to the same man who gave me the first offer.MR.LANDO ext.6153 ( Note keep this name and ext. number in mind for futire refrences).WELL.. he jumped down my throat telling me i did everything wrong and that the amount on the first letter recieved was WRONG and that the amount sounded rediculous..I explained that "Hey!! this is what the letter from YOUR COMPANY asked for and that is what i paid IN FULL!!" He tried to challenge me down stating that we had an agreement to pay $500 not $200.. but funny thing is the $200 was in writting and his verbal agreement surely couldn't cash the $500 cheque he was expecting !! LOL ...Now he wants to disregard the second notice i recieved to obtain the $480 instead of giving me my 65% off of the $883 owing ( which would bring it to $309)..I had agreed to try and pay it by the 28th of April..Well guess what ..TODAY IS APRIL28 AND THEY AINT GETTIN SH*T!!!!!... I am reading all of the entries on this collecting agency and i am disgusted that TD Canada Trust would even think to hire such a company to collect on their behalf which such horrible business ethics and flat out vultures they employ... Might I add the Vulture that i was dealing with was an african, i believe nigerian or ghanian (NOT BEING STEREOTYPICAL ..BUT TALKING FROM EXPERIENCE ) and god knows they hired the best person to collect money from other ..i.e. FRAUD SPECIALIST AT THIER BEST !!! I thank each and everyone of you that have posted your involvements with this agency, collectors, loan shark collectors .. whateva the hell they are.. and have used your internet time wisely so that WE may ALL be aware of how people like these try to annoy our lives... Might i add .. i am not trying to runn from my debtss.. as u can see . I CALLED THEM B4 THEY EVEN THOUGHT ABOUT SENDING ME THESE FOOLISH SETTLEMENT OFFERS TO TRY AND CLEAR UP MY CREDIT.!!!!!!!! ------------- pricelesss... for everything else there's MASTERCARD |
