I just wanted to return to this site to let others know that you can be free of your soul crushing debt through bankruptcy. I had over 50000 in provincial and federal debt from an undergraduate degree and I defaulted after I went back to do a Masters with no student loan. My minimum payment was over 1000 a month including interest and I was only able to pay the interest and not touch the principle. I waited until I was out of my undergrad for 7 years and a week, even though my Masters degree was only 5 years old and filed for bankruptcy. and I was discharged! It is amazing to feel free again. I am now back in university because I am a sucker for punishment I suppose, doing a professional program that will lead to gainful employment. If anyone out there has considered suicide, had their family and relationships breakdown because of a hopeless hole of debt you feel incapable of climbing out of, or self medicated the helplessness through drug, alcohol or behaviors the way I did, know that there is a way out. Time (7 years) will set you free. |

I am so glad to hear that you were victorious. That is always a sign of hope and light at the end of a very long tunnel. Truly...I am glad that you made it through!
