Hello,
My common law spuse has a 30 yr old debt that has grown to be huge over the years of interest. He still gets letters from the gov. He has no income and a disability. I am the only earner in the family. I have never declared him as a dependent because he is afraid that they could come after me for his loan that he acquired years before we met. Is that accurate? Am i putting myslf at risk by correctly claiming him as a dependent in my own income tax? Thanks
