I have been researching this for a few days now and wouldn't mind some clarification on Stats Barred and Canadian Student Loans.

From everything that I have read, Stats Barred does not include moneys owed to the Government, like Canadian Student Loans.

Is this correct?

Quick background - I live in BC and have paid down the BC portion of my Student Loan. I was released from bankruptcy in Jan 2011, when I was released from bankruptcy (which I was told would include my student loans, but which it did not) I still owe/ed my Canadian and BC Student loans.

Now in Jan 2017 (7 years later) having paid down my BC student loan, CRA has started putting on the pressure and have sent me a nice letter saying that they will be sending my file to their legal team if I do not contract them to arrange payment in full.

I was just wondering, if indeed stats barred does truly apply to Canadian Student Loans, or if all of the information I have been reading is correct and Canadian Student loans are exempt from the stats barred status.

Any help would be great!

If Canadian Student loans can have stats barred status, then I will of course take action to ensure that this is the case for my loan, but if not then I will simply contact CRA and see what needs to be done to avoid legal action against me as that doesn't sound like much fun at all...
