I went to school in 1999 for 1 year. I was a kid and stupid and didnt go to class (was still doing quite well) and got kicked out, my impression is most of my loan was returned since I was only in school a few months. I had a LOT of debts from that time and I now I have them all taken care of except the student loan, so I really don't want to have to declare bankruptcy to get rid of this. I have a LOT of current debt, a lot of it incurred taking care of the old debts but them I can handle, barley.

I did make payments on what was left of it for a bit many many years ago (2002 max) (I dont remember exact ally when)
I have a collection agency mailing/calling me for months now. But they recently stepped up their game and called work. And when I called them to ask them to stop calling work they kinda went aha now we know where you work so we're going to do a garnishment.

I was thinking of contacting cfw group (they have a few reasonably priced 'lets see whats up' services) to find out if its stats barred etc what my options are, but I have no information except for vague recollections. I cant even read the demand letter they sent me their printer was out of ink or something. Who/where can I contact to get the information any legal advice would want to have?

If I could pay it, I would just pay it, but I can't.

Hey. If it is an Ontario loan, meaning OSAP and owed to the Ontario government, then catching a limitation issue is certainly not a likely result. However if it is bank risk (Scotiabank, RBC< or CIBC); or federal guaranteed CSL then limitations apply.

What agency is calling you?

If you want a specific assessment and analysis done for limitation issues there is a special one we are putting out at a special rate for the summer and early fall. It's like $180 bucks.

Hi! Wasn't expecting to hear from the man himself :)

I've learned enough to know its the Bank risk portion (Scotiabank). Its ARO/ARC calling me (joy is the latest person specifically).

My impression was a large part of the loan was returned because I was only in school a few months so maby that applied to the government part? I've never heard a word from them. Never held back my taxes or anything.  I was also thinking maby theres some rule that the bank gets me first then the gov so maby if I get this taken care of then the gov part will come after me?

And I didn't know about the special but that's awesome. The assessment was what I was thinking of. But I didn't want to sign up for it without being able to tell you more then 'er, yea, I had a loan' I figure you need a bit more then that. So I was posting here to find out how I could get the information your going to need. But I'm terrified I'm going to do/say the wrong thing and end up resetting the clock and getting garnished and losing everything. Freaking out, basically.

As long as you know who you owe then we are all good. Before you even think about going in feet first you need to know what the strength of your case is, and of course risk assessment.  Limitation issues are not so cut and dry, especially with the privates.  Also, you may very well have 2, even three loans.

I can assess to determine case strength and piece things together for you so we can determine if it warrants an examination and discovery. It requires 45 minutes to an hour of your time and mine. Maybe less, depending on how much I can get out of you.

If you are in position for an examination and discovery and you want us to do it then cost is very reasonable.

I know its not cut and dry, I tried to do the research myself, but the rules changed right around when I got my loan and there's at least 2 parts to the original loan. And when the price of getting it wrong can be garnishment to the point that my family loses everything....I'd rather have someone who knows what their talking about look at it.

I filled out your contact form. I like the idea of reasonable because if I had money to throw around, I'd pay the loan!

And something's messed up on your contact form, wont let you submit if you select the Assessment & Analysis as the 'service'
